Gear: Potions

Potions are glass vials full of magical fluid brewed by an apothecary. Because of the time it takes to brew them, most types of potion are quite rare to find in either a shop or while adventuring, but some have become so demanded that they are manufactured in large quantities and commonly available.

Obtaining Potions

Potions require a great deal of time to brew and are manufactured by special chemists known as apothecaries.

Blending Potions

While blended potions do exist, they can only be blended by a qualified professional. Any attempt of blending two potions together by a non-apothecary will result in destruction of both potions. In the event an apothecary is employed to blend together two potions, the game master will decide how both of the two resulting potions -- which must be identical -- blend together.

Using Potions

Potions can be consumed personally, poured onto objects and plants, or fed to fellow adventurers (even if they are incapacitated). They can be sold at marketplaces and given to NPCs or other characters.

Common Types of Potion

There are thousands of potions that do amazing things scattered around the world. While you might run into these unique potions from time to time, the majority of potions you are going to have in your possession will be on the following list:

  • Potion of Healing - +25% HP
  • Potion of Speed - x2 to Speed for 1 turn
  • Potion of Armor - Resist 100% of melee damage for 1 turn
  • Potion of Initiative - +5 to initiative for 1 turn
  • Potion of Invisibility - Grants temporary invisibility to stationary objects and characters for 1 turn. Any motion will break the spell.
  • Potion of Vision - See all hidden objects and traps in a single room
  • Potion of Translation - Grants temporary communication ability with one creature
  • Potion of Silence - Resist 100% of magical damage for 1 turn
  • Potion of Mimicry - Appear to all other beings as an object or character. Engaging in combat, using any other potion, or speaking will break the spell.
  • Potion of Attack - +3 to attack for 1 turn

Rare Types of Potion

Beyond the usual potions you'll find while adventuring, there may be others that do one of several things:

  • temporarily buff your statistics by +1 to +10 points
  • temporarily grant an affinity
  • temporarily buff a slot on a single piece of armor or weapon
  • temporarily grant resistance
  • repair a weapon, wand, or piece of armor
  • grant a permanent +1 buff to a statistic
  • allow a single teleportation event to a previously visited location

Unique Types of Potion

Unique potions are, generally speaking, amazing blends of multiple potions that are incredibly rare to find and usually found in the possession of bosses or in particularly difficult magical treasure chests.
