Transportation

Entwined offers game masters the opportunity to add vehicles and other forms of transportation to their games if they want transit from one location to the other to be as adventurous as searching through the depths of an abandoned temple.

Travel over great distances would be a chore if all you could ever do was walk. While the distance traveled may require some minor calculations prior to the game session, travel is pretty straightforward -- unless the vehicle is attacked by another vehicle or boarded by thieves. If travel is less about getting there and more adventure for the pot, we have special rules for that.

Timed Travel

The easiest way to handle travel (for game masters as well as players) is to simply roll 1d30 to see if anything happens along the way and explain that you all rented camels to get the job done. If someone rolls low, perhaps they injure a leg or get an odd saddle rash -- but mostly you simply get where you want to go.

Walking

The group always travels together. No matter what the size of the character, the group always travels together. That's very important. However, while on the way, the game master should consider what is involved in a hike. You need provisions (food), a place to stay (campsite), and perhaps a guide or a map/compass.

  • Maintenance: frequent stops
  • Climbing: slowed

Animals of Burden

Whether it's horses, wolves, donkeys, camels, or any number of other creatures with the fortitude to carry you for hundreds of miles at a stretch, animals of burden...

  • Maintenance: occasional stops by rivers for water
  • Climbing: rare

Landcraft

Tanks, jeeps, cars, trucks, and all manner of wheeled vehicles may be available for you depending on the setting of your game master's world. Generally speaking, these are just like animals of burden

  • Maintenance: frequent stops
  • Climbing: very difficult

Watercraft

Traveling to islands and other far-away places may require a boat, ship, submarine, or other exotic seagoing craft. A boat must be able to take on water and sink. Also, boats require constant maintenance, so players may be asked to perform "chores" while sailing to their destination.

  • Maintenance: chores
  • Climbing: impossible

Airships and Spaceships

Whether heading to the atmosphere or the stratosphere, planes, balloons, rockets, and even futuristic sci-fi constructions require a bit of explanation. Aircraft are just like watercraft, except they must remain airborne or they will crash. If a boat sinks, that leaves the party in the water. If a plane crashes, that could kill them all.

  • Maintenance: none for passengers
  • Climbing: without issue
