Stats: Inventory Slots

Each character has a set number of inventory slots that upgrade as your character levels up -- allowing you to carry more and more gear. For convenience sake, each inventory slot allows you to hold an infinite number of the same item. Gold pieces are the one item in the game that does not require an inventory slot. Picking up an item off the ground that matches one already in an equipped slot simply increases the number of that item you are currently carrying by one.

Leveling Up

To begin the game, all characters receive +1 to all four inventory slots. Then, with each level up, all characters gain +1 to any one inventory slot (weapon, armor, potions, or backpack) of their choosing.

Slot Type: Weapon

For each weapon you would like to wield during battle, you must have a weapon slot. So a character with three weapon slots can choose one of up to three weapons (one-handed or two-handed) to take into combat. During combat, the character can switch between any of those three weapons as they see fit without penalty for the cost of a minor action.

Slot Type: Armor

For each piece of armor you would like to wear, you must have an available armor slot in which to equip it. So a character with four weapon slots can wear up to four different types of armor.

Special rule: armor equipping must be done with regard to the anatomy of their character as dictated by their "species" choice. Thus, a character with two arms cannot have three sets of gloves and a character with eight tentacles can't have nine pairs of arm guards. With this in mind, it is possible for a character to hold three pairs of gloves in a single armor slot, but they can only wear two of those gloves at a time if they only have two hands.

Slot Type: Potions

For each potion slot, a character can hold one type of potion. This is to reflect the fact that characters have to carry flasks in separate pouches on a belt or vest. So a character with two potion slots could dedicated one to Potions of Health and the second to Potions of Invisibility. Such a character could not pick up a Potion of Silence unless they have a backpack slot available and, if they do, couldn't use it without swapping out one of the two equipped potions.

Slot Type: Backpack

Unlike other titles in this genre, Entwined does not have different kinds of backpack. Instead, the backpack is simply a miscellaneous inventory slot that can hold any unequipped item. So for instance, your backpack can have -- assuming you have enough slots to accommodate them all -- a weapon, an armor, and a potion. None of these objects can be used until they are moved to an active slot.

Items can only be moved from an active inventory slot to the backpack while out of battle. Moving items from equipped slots to the backpack or vice versa is allowed without penalty.
